Fetal Pain Bill

Several of our Guild members, including myself, were active in giving testimony and writing letters to the editor on behalf of the bill. 6 members of the board, including myself, wrote a letter that was published in the Crossroads section of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on June 14. I have included it for those who did not see it as the first attachment. A longer version was introduced into the record during the debate on the floor at the State Assembly by Rep. Leah Vukmir (who wrote a lovely thank you note, by the way) . Please hold on to these talking points as the bill goes to the State Senate.

White Mass

The White Mass is still on for Sunday October 18th at San Camillus at 9:30 AM. Unfortunately, Fr. Scot never got back to me about being a speaker, so I am open to any ideas anyone might have at this late date for an alternative. Please contact me at [email protected]

End of Life Conference

Human Dignity at the End of Life Conference is scheduled for the morning of November 14th at San Camillus. We have 5 fantastic speakers, including our own Marissa Beffel. Breakfast and lunch are included. I am trying to get CME credits for some of the talks.

Annual CMA Meeting

The annual meeting for the national CMA will be held October 1-4. Our own Richard Fehring has set up a NFP session the day prior. Hope to see you there!

Other News

As president of the Guild, I was asked to give an end of life talk for my parish cluster in May. If anyone is interested, it is on You Tube for Saints Peter and Paul Parish. I was the third of three speakers including abortion and the death penalty as part of our social justice ministry.

A Comment on the Supreme Court and “Gay” Marriage

It was saddening, though not perhaps surprising, when 5 justices of the Supreme Court took upon themselves to impose so-called “gay” marriage on the nation. After all, sterile sex among heterosexuals through contraception has been the norm since the 60’s. However, as Christians, we are called to act charitably towards those who disagree with us, even when they do not accord us the same respect. Let us preach with our actions and remember as Blessed Mother Theresa said, we are called to be faithful, not successful (if Roe v Wade is any indication, it will take decades to undue the harm they have done).

My commentary on this was sent as a letter to the editor of the Catholic Herald. They are considering it for their next edition.

On a lighter note, I hope everyone is having a great summer. Hope to see you all at our picnic in 2 weeks.

God bless you all in your endeavors.
