Father Strand will provide an historical overview of 20th century developments in the Church’s articulation of the meaning of conjugal love. He will argue that Pope Saint Paul VI’s contribution to this discussion in Humanae Vitae not only synthesized Church teaching on contraception but also would become the basis for the Church’s response to IVF. He will encourage health care professionals to remember they cannot be good physicians without first being good metaphysicians.
Bio: Father Strand is the pastor of St. Frances Cabrini Parish and St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Parish in West Bend. He studied at the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family Studies in Rome, focusing his research on classical education.
